Your mother does a lot of work to keep your home running well, so try to help her out. Here’s how you can make things easier for your busy mom. First of all, if you want to help your mom, you should keep your own room clean. Strive not to make a mess. If you do, clean it up. Keep track of your things and put them away when you’re done with them. Your living environment will be clean and you will have a better chance of doing some of the things you want to do!

Your mother is probably working hard, so she would be glad if you could help her. Figure out what tasks you could do that your mother usually takes care of or ask your mother what you could do for her. Don’t try to “surprise” your mom by taking on a job you’ve never done before by yourself. If you do it incorrectly, you could even make more work for your mom.

If your mom asks for your help, help her out! She wouldn’t be asking if she didn’t really need your help! Clean up around the house, do everything with a good attitude. Your mother will see then that you’re really willing to help. You can gather your family and organize a “Mom’s Day Off”. Divide up the tasks and make a present for your mom. Your mother will have the day to herself. Make sure that every day is, at least a little, Mother’s Day.

Make cleaning a habit and it will make a big difference in the clutter level in your home. Apply the “picking up as you go” concept. Create a checklist and make sure to complete all the small tasks listed there. For example: make your bed when you get out of it in the morning; after having breakfast/dinner, rinse all dishes and load the dishwasher; put things away when you are done with them, etc.

If hiring a cleaning team to regularly tidy up the home is not an option for you, prepare to spend quite a bit of time cleaning your home…especially with the New Year around the corner. If you plan on having your annual general cleaning of the house, you may find useful this checklist. Make sure to go through all of the questions.

Ask yourself the following questions when cleaning the house

Have you cleaned your kitchen appliances like your microwave oven, toaster, and gas range?

Have you washed the outside and inside of the refrigerator?

Have you scrubbed and cleaned the bathroom tiles?

Have you washed all the rugs, toilet seat covers, and shower curtains?

Have you cleaned and refilled the medicine cabinet?

Have you dusted the ceiling, blinds, and shades? And don’t forget to remove the cobwebs.

Have you washed the windows, walls, curtains, and screens?

Have you vacuumed or wash the draperies? Have you cleaned all the light fixtures?

Have you waxed, polished or repainted your wooden furniture?

Have you had your carpets steam-cleaned?

Have you had your upholstery steam-cleaned?

Have you cleaned the radiators and air conditioners or humidifiers?

Have you cleaned your garage and your car?

Have you bought new beddings, pillow covers, and curtains if needed?

Develop a house cleaning schedule, declutter and organize your house! Good luck!

Make your own air freshener

Store-bought air fresheners are easy to use, but are they safe? If you want your home smelling good, learn how to make your own homemade air fresheners. Besides saving you a lot of money, homemade air fresheners are 100% more effective than store-bought ones. Homemade air fresheners actually do away with household odors instead of just covering them up.

Homemade air fresheners are not only free of chemicals, but they are made of things you are probably already cooking with. Try to make your home smell amazing with just a few ingredients on your stovetop. You can always switch up the ingredients to achieve even lower costs. Such homemade air fresheners cost next to nothing, but are much better than any store-bought air fresheners.

Vinegar and baking soda are great room fresheners. Vinegar deodorizes, while baking soda absorbs odors. Essential oils also make effective air fresheners. You should mix several drops of Lavender oil, for example, with tap water. Then, shake the mixture up, and spray it into the air. You will get a nice flowery smell.

To make another homemade air freshener you will need items that you probably place in your garbage disposal any way: lemon, lime and orange peels. Fill a small saucepan and place the cut up peelings in it adding a couple inches of tap water. Place the pan on your stove on “low” heat. Pay close attention, refilling with water as necessary. Discard after two days. Your house will have a clean, citrus aroma.

If you want to get rid of nasty-smelling cooking odors, mix up a solution of apple cider vinegar and tap water (1:1). Dampen a dish towel with the solution and wave the towel around the air. The smell will be gone.

You don’t have enough time to clean your home or you are you too lazy to do it, don’t get upset. You can cope with all the household chores not spending too much time on it. Just spend few minutes a day on separate cleaning tasks and you will be amazed how much you can do. We’re never going to have enough time on cleaning, but completing some tasks everyday will help us stay organized.

Don’t put off housework if you want your home to stay in tip-top condition. If you only have 15 minutes, give it all you’ve got in those 15 minutes. We understand that it’s not easy to keep up with all the responsibilities you have and still take care of your house. But believe you’re strong enough to cope with all the difficulties and cleaning is among them. Just focus on some cleaning task and it will be much more easily to cope with the rest. For example, if you need to vacuum the floor, but there are so many little toys on it, complete the two tasks simultaneously: sort the toys and prepare your floor for vacuuming. You can get exhausted from picking all the toys up. But it’s worth it. Junk the toys into one big pile in the middle of your living room, grab the trash can, sit down next to the pile and start sorting. It won’t take very long, but you will be onto the next stage of vacuuming much faster.

When you watch TV, get up during the commercial breaks and do something. You will be surprised how much you can get done during a commercial break! Look around the room, decide what you can do during that few minutes. You can wipe down the kitchen counter, clear off the table, vacuum, put some things away, etc.

You can get cleaning tasks on a schedule. This will make your work faster and you will be able to determine what should be given priority and done first. If you do a cleaning task, write it down on your calendar based on when it should be done again. For example, if you clean the toilet on a weekly basis, and you do it on Friday, then write it down for the following Friday on your calendar.

Having an organized cleaning plan will definitely help you divide your cleaning tasks and determine what cleaning tasks are in your list of priorities.

When you have family or friends over, it’s obvious that you want your home to be inviting and cozy. You can create a welcoming and cozy space for your guests with the following easy steps.

Make use of candles

Using candles rather than artificial sources can help you quickly create a cozier environment. You can invite your guests to a candlelight dinner. Dimming the overhead lights and lighting a few candles will create a warm, and more intimate ambiance.

Involve natural light to provide your guests with a more welcoming atmosphere

Pull up the blinds, draw back the curtains and let the light stream in. Create a connection with the outside world. This will definitely make your space seem warmer and more inviting.

Adorn your home with some plants

Bring life to the space by adding a little bit of life to your decor. Having a plant or two on end tables or in the corners of a room. There is a lot of plants that require very little care and still look amazing. Hoya is one of them. Or you can decorate your space with a realistic-looking artificial bouquet.

Incorporating the power of scent

You may feel frustrated when your room smells bad. That’s why find out what produces that undesirable odors and eliminate the source of them. Strive to find the smells that make your guests feel welcome in a space. Fresh flowers, citrus, food cooking are all enjoyable and refreshing scents that can be easily achieved naturally.

Tend to all needs

If you want your guests feel comfortable tend to their needs. Consider placing small bowls of  candies or snacks around the home. Also, place a water dispenser or decorative lidded pitcher in a central location with a few glasses in case of thirst. This way your guests can feel as comfortable as possible and not worry that they’re asking for too much. This will help you ensure that your home is as cozy and inviting as you want it to be.

Nowadays home buyers have plenty of options. That’s why you should market your home in the best possible manner to sell it.

When you decide to sell your home, you should be aware that there is a lot of tricks that can help you make it quick and easy. Staging can set your home apart from other properties and boost the selling price to the top of the range for comparable homes. The prospective buyers will welcome the opportunity to view your home in person. This is often one of the most important steps in selling a house. You should pump your home up a notch or two to sell your home as quick as possible and at a good selling price. Here are a few simple steps to staging your home.

Thoroughly clean your home again and again!

One of the basic strategies of staging your home is to clean it to perfection! Your prospective buyers want to step into a sparkling clean home and make sure that the selling price coincides with the size, age, and condition of your home.

If you need to impress your buyers sparkling clean windows are a necessity. So, wash all the windows inside and out. This will help you highlight the outdoors. If you have drapes and blinds, open them to allow the sunshine in. Open the windows to let the fresh air penetrate your home.

The kitchen is one of the most important rooms to buyers. That’s why you should always keep the sink spotless and clear of any dishes. Also, keep the counters clutter-free. Clean out the fridge, and remove any cooking odors.

Keep mirrors sparkling clean. Don’t forget to clean all appliances and home hardware such as door handles and faucets. Make the beds, empty all waste baskets. Make your bathroom gleam. Clean your bathtub, sink, toilet, shower, etc. Hang fresh towels. Tuck away the laundry.

Clean up all the nooks and crannies. Make your home comfortable for you and the buyers. Organize the seating and furniture to maximize space. From the floor to the ceiling, keep it all spic and span! Pressure wash the siding, sidewalks, driveways and patios.

Repair and repaint any damaged areas to give the home a new and clean look. Repaint the rooms in a friendly, neutral color. Create a neutral decor (remove personal photos and knick-knacks).

Installing your wall-to-wall carpet

Would you like to adorn your home with a nice and comfortable surface? Installing new carpet is a great idea if you want to enhance the beauty of your room. The surface to be carpeted should be smooth and clean. Sweep and vacuum the floor thoroughly. Start the installation process by measuring the longest walls in your room. To determine the square yardage multiply the width and length, and divide by 9. Add 10-15 percent to allow for errors and irregularities.

Cut the tackless strips to size with heavy snips or a strip cutter. Nail the strips 1/2″ from the wall.  Tackless strips come in a variety of thicknesses, widths, and heights. Make sure you’re using the correct size. Cut away the padding along the inside edge of the strip.

The carpet will be easier to handle outside. If it’s possible, take the carpet outside, and notch the back on both sides at the appropriate length. You might want someone to help you. Take carpet back to the room. Cut away excess carpet. Where the carpet edges join, you’ll need to create a seam.

Place a piece of seaming tape under the seam, adhesive side up. Heat the seaming iron to the temperature recommended by the tape manufacturer, and rest it directly on the tape for 20 to 30 seconds. After the pieces are joined, place heavy objects on the seam to hold it in place as the glue dries.

Attach the carpet to the tackless strips at one end of the room. Trim excess carpet with a wall trimmer. When all the carpet is in place, cut out the vent openings. And now when you’re done, there is one more thing to keep in mind. Don’t forget that the process of installing the carpet is only the beginning. You need to take care of your carpeting. Regular cleaning and maintenance will prolong the life of your carpeting and ensure the carpet looks its best. Follow the manufacture instructions and carefully clean your carpeting. If you’re not sure that you are aware of how to properly care for the carpeting, ask for help. You can hire professional carpet cleaning services that know how to serve your needs working within your budget constraints. You can be confident that the carpet you have installed will be well kept for many years to come.

Plenty of commercial shower cleaners claim they can eliminate soap scum and mildew. But is it true? We will try to help decide which cleaning products to use to clean your shower. Which products – homemade or commercial – are better to use?

Most people use commercial cleaners to clean their showers. These products are not cheap, that’s why there are even two reasons for switching to ego-friendly homemade cleaners. Almost all store-bought shower cleaners contain harsh chemicals that badly influence on the environment. In effort to reduce spending and protect the planet more and more people strive to use environmentally friendly cleaning products. Instead of purchasing expensive chemical-laden cleaning products people start to make their own homemade shower cleaning solutions.

There is a plenty of recipes for homemade shower cleaners. It’s really very simple and inexpensive to make your own shower cleaner at home. The most popular way to make the solution is to mix up vinegar and water. You should place a one-to-one ratio of the ingredients in a spray bottle. Then, just shake the bottle and your solution is done. Spray it in your shower.

To avoid having to clean your shower frequently always wipe down the shower wall and doors after taking shower. By eliminating excess water you can reduce soap scum, grime, and mildew.
